Tom Sawyer 4th Post

Here is post number 4...one more to go! Well I think its kind of weird that everyone thinks that they are dead, when they aren't! If I were there families and I was at their funerals and they showed up in the middle of it, I would have many mixed emotions! I would be relieved, because they are home, confused, because they are supposedly dead, somewhat angry, because they made everyone go through so much pain, and in doubt, because I would probably think I was in shock because of sadness and that I was hallucinating or something...Hmm to weird! If I were Tom I somehow would have tried to contact my family and let them know I was still alive so that I wouldn't have to put them through so much emotional pain. Well and now Tom and Huck saw someone get killed. They didn't tell about it because they didn't want Injun Joe to come after them now. I would have told because I mean can't they just get in that secret protection thingy..? Well I guess not but I still would have told because Injun Joe could just go to jail or whatever and they would have no more problems, the end! Also, it gets into that whole "guilty by association" deal!

Tom Sawyer 3rd Post

Ok soooo I think that was pretty weird with the whole dead cats and warts things...I duno though...stuff like tha just really creeps me out! Gosh I wish i lived somewhere where I could go swimming in a little river thingy out in the woods! so much fun! But...it sounds like Mr Tom Sawyer is having some difficulties with Becky. Kinda weird to go off and become a pirate just because of your "girlfriend".. hmmm i wonder what it would be like if men did that nowdays....The island they are on seems pretty cool. I think it would be fun to go on to a desserted island and live there. Unless you ran out of food.

Tom Sawyer 2nd Post

Weellll long time since I've posted...well no more of that I'm getting caught up!!! YAY!! haha i think its so funny how if you say "i love you" to a person then you will be engaged. I feel bad for Becky too because Tom said he had already done that to another girl. But in a way shes being a little sensitive haha. Gosh can you imagine if today was like back then...? That would be crazy, things would be soooo different! I think it would be better though because now people are to careless about that stuff, like they say "i love you" to basically everyone. o well haha. I also think its kind of funny how earlier in the book it said something about how Becky was kinda the rich type, and then here she is with Tom. Not at all what I expected!

Tom Sawyer First Post

So far, this book is better than the other ones we have read, but it is still kind of boring. The main character, Tom Sawyer, is about 12 years old, therefore it is easier for me to relate to what he is doing, although I think that if someone acted like that now, they would be considered immature. When he flirts with the girls, he acts really immature. I can't imagine liking a boy who shows off by doing stupid stunts. I think Tom is very rebellious also. His aunt is actually pretty nice to him considering what he does. It seems like she tries to be strict with him, but loves him so much that she cant really be mad at him. Im actually looking forward to reading more of it!!

The Witch of Blackbird Pond 4th post

Urrrrr it really bugs me that John was planning on marrying Mercy, but then Judith jumped in and now he's stuck with her! If I were Kit I would say something to him! Also, if I were John, I wouldn't let Judith totally take over and ruin all the plans!! urr that just really bugs me lol. But then if you think about it, if he would have said something like "oops sorry I was planning on marrying Mercy", Judith would be sooo mad! I also feel bad for Mercy though. She could have married John. But now because of Judith, she can't. I wonder how Mercy feels about this lol. I'm also really curious to see what the outcome is, and if Judith and John actually end up getting married.

The Witch of Blackbird Pond 3rd post

Wow Kit really doesn't know how to work. Although, if I had to make some sort of corn meal stuff and they told me to put one pinch in, then mix it all up, I would also get very inpatient and probably dump it all in at once. That's a big change in lifestyles, and would be very hard to adjust to. I wonder if she expected any of this, and if she knew this is how she would have to live, would she still have come?? Also, going to that church would be sooooooo boring!! I couldn't imagine having the Sabbath where you cant really do anything but listen to hours of people talking about boring stuff. Churches have really changed because now you can go to youth groups and you can understand what they are talking about, when in this, I probably would have no clue what they were talking about. Poor Kit.

My Essay!!!!!!

The last two books I’ve read for honors are The Witch of Blackbird Pond, and Johnny Tremaine. Johnny Tremaine was hard to follow and pretty boring, while The Witch of Blackbird Pond is actually a pretty good book. In my history classes, we have been learning about the time periods in which these two books have taken place. Johnny Tremaine took place during the times of the American Revolution, and The Witch of Blackbird Pond took place during the late 1600’s. That was a time when people were arguing about religion. I’m able to relate to that better right now, because that is what we are currently learning about in my history class.

First I will start out relating Johnny Tremaine to what I have learned in history. Johnny Tremaine was about a boy living in Boston, Massachusetts in the late 1700’s. We were recently learning about the Constitution, which is about the time in which Johnny Tremaine takes place. Although, the story happens before the constitution was written. The British troops came to America and started stirring things up. Then Johnny joined the rebels and fought for what was right. He didn’t actually get to join in the battle because of his burnt hand, but he still stuck with the rebel side. In history, I learned that it was after the Revolutionary War that the Constitution was made. It was made in order to keep the peace in America and set some rules that had to be followed. It’s a good thing that people back in the late 1700’s stood up for this country and fought for what was right, otherwise none of the events of the Constitution would have taken place, and we would probably be owned by the British. The story that is taking place in Johnny Tremaine was the beginning steps to American history.

Secondly, there is The Witch of Blackbird Pond. This book takes place in the late 1600’s, which is about 1,000 years after Johnny Tremaine took place. This is easier for me to relate to, because right now in history we are learning about the immigration from England to America, and the problems between religions and the way people disagreed on them. We watched a movie about the Higgins family, which is a family who immigrates to America because the England Church is forcing the Puritans to read the book of sports, and be quiet about their religion, or go to jail. This relates to Kit because she also immigrates to a new foreign land to her (Connecticut), from her home (Barbados). She is doing this because she was going to be forced to marry a way older man who she did not want to marry. Also, in The Witch of Blackbird Pond, Hannah Tupper is rejected in society because she is a Quaker, and supposedly a witch. The Higgins family was Puritans, and in a way they were rejected also, even though there were more of them there than there were Quakers in The Witch of Blackbird Pond. They weren’t following the King, so they were charged for treason. Like Hannah Tupper, they did not want to change religions, so they found a new way, by immigrating to America.

In conclusion, by reading these books I have been able to make comparisons to my History class. Also by reading these books, it has really helped me to understand more in my history class, because it gives me a perspective of someone who really went through some of the events we are learning about. I was amazed at how much I learned, and how much I was able to relate.

The Witch of Blackbird Pond 2nd post

I’m glad Kit made it safely to Connecticut! I would have been scared to travel all by myself with people I didn't know, and then go to relative's house that I barely even know. Especially considerering the fact that she never told them that she was coming. She is also pretty brave because when Uncle Matthew came in when Rachel and the girls were trying on some of Kit's clothes, she talked back to him. I would have been scared that he would make me leave, or just get really angry. I think that if you are a guest at someone's house and you hardly even know them and you are planning to live with them; you should probably be nice and respectful to them and give them no reasons to want you to leave.

The Witch of Blackbird Pond 1st post

I like this book alot more than Johnny Tremaine!!! This book is actually one that I'am interested in! And I can focus when I read it!!! Well anyways, I would have been really scared if I were Kit when she jumped into the ocean to save the little girl's doll. I would be afraid of a shark or something ha. She must be a really nice girl to be able to do something like that, since in a way she was risking her life by doing that. She could have drowned or died of hypothermia, or you never know, a shark could have eaten her...

Last Post!!!

Yes!! i finally finished (well i finished awhile ago) but i am finally on my last post!! This book was super boring at the beggining, but it did get better towards the end. I thought this book was kind of boring though when it kept going on about the different war things. When Johnny heard that Rab was injured, i had a feeling that he would die, just because of the way most stories end up going. I also thought it was weird how Rab wanted him to leave before he died. I would have wanted to say bye to him and talk to him first. Also if i were Rab i would want to say bye to Johnny too. I liked the way the book ended and it wasnt so bad after all. But, im sooo glad its over!!!!!!!!! : ) : )

Fourth Post!!

this book is really boring. thats sad about Pumpkin though. if i were johnny i would feel terrible about it. especially since he got his gun, and pumpkin didnt get anything out of the deal. I thought it was funny when rab's aunt stuffed his uncle into what she was sewing so that he would be hidden. There are alot of new characters and names, its sorta hard to keep track of them all haha. i would be really scared if army men just came in my house. i would probably panick and run and hide.

Third Post!!

o so sad. thats terrible that Rab died : ( he was like Johnny's mentor and his best friend. I was thinking like if my best friend had died, and i had no family, i dont know what i would do. thats really sad. i also felt bad for Johnny that he wasnt able to go to war, because even though it would be really scary, i would want to stick with my best friend. Ive noticed that in alot of my posts, i haave repeatatively said how i feel ad for johnny : (

Second Post!!

ok sorry for not posting. it wouldnt work on my computer at home still, so i had to do it at school and it took longer. sorry guys : (. ok well i was pretty sure that Johnny would be accepted at the Lyte family. Mr. Lyte made it seem like he was going to be welcome. I thought he would live with them and then everything would turn out and they would liv happily ever after. But then, that would sort of be boring. I felt bad for Johnny when Mr. Lyte stole the cup from him. It really seems like Johnny is starting to go downhill : ( poor kid.

First Johnny Tremaine Post!!

Hey guys! soooo i just started reading this book. I thought that this book would be kinda boring and well it sorta is. I dont really like history books but o well. I thought it was really sad when Dove and Dusty gave Johnny the wrong silver block. If i were Johnny i would be really upset about that because his whole life is practically ruined. Now he cant go to work or do anything. He is considered worthless. I also thought that Mrs. Lapam was being really mean to Johnny when he has done all that hard work after all those years and now to just treat him like he is absolutely worthless.
